My wife attended a field trip with one of the kids and came home to find our new dog missing and a message on the answering machine the day after the dog escaped the first time.  The message was from someone who had found the dog wandering around a busy street nearby.  The person pulled over his car, opened the door, whistled, and the dog jumped without even knowing the person.  He had to go to work and had to drop the dog off at his home, about 30 minutes away.

Later, when my wife picked up the dog, the man explained to us he too has a beagle and that it escapes regularly once a month.
