…since they are mostly immobile and can’t help it. So in the last week or so the following has occurred: My youngest who broke her left femur last August broke her left foot last Thursday. We got one of those above ground summer pools. It came with a ladder and my daughter jumped off it onto the ground instead of the pool, fracturing her foot. The following Monday my family and I went on a bike ride with some friends. I was goofing around on a small hill, and teetered back and fell. In the process I must have slammed my foot on the ground because I bruised the bone in my heel (almost a week and I’m still limping). Then, Saturday my older daughter completely closed her finger in the car door. The medical results are still pending a follow up from the doctor today.

But later in the morning, my daughter showed no signs of trouble. Then as my wife and I were talking she realized that my daughter had accidentally sprayed herself in the face with breath spray the previous day. Another doctor’s office co-pay and prescription down the drain.

My friend and I were supposed to go riding on the west side of town at 1pm Saturday. I was to drive myself. I kept thinking in my mind of how to get to the west side trail head. I became somewhat obsessed.

We then changed to the east side of town and 12:30 to accommodate some other plans he had. This was a relief since I wasn’t sure how to get there. But it was too late, my mind was on autopilot, I managed to navigate my way one block from the west side trail before remembering we had changed to the east side. I would have called, but my last day at my previous employer was the preceding Friday and no longer had a cell phone.

I have special shoes that clip onto my pedals for my bike, and the stationary cycle at the gym. I have forgotten them several times to bring them to the gym. This often results in a crummy workout because my feet hurt and my athletic shoe does not transfer the effort to the pedal well.

My friend I ride has suggested on multiple occasions to keep the riding shoes in the car. I agree but never remember to do it. The result is I forgot the shoes twice in one week going to the gym and on a bike ride Saturday. My wife had to stop what she was doing, load up the kids and bring the shoes to me, delaying our ride by almost 20 minutes.

For some people dreams are a welcome addition to sleep. For me they are an annoyance that often results in me losing sleep and missing and or ignoring an alarm. Last night was no different in that regard. However, the type of dream I had not had since I was little.

It started out with my family and I playing in the backyard, and a lion in the neighbors yard. It was trying to get in to my yard through the fence. I got the family safely in the house and made sure all the doors and windows were shut. As I was checking the last door which happened to be the back door I could see the lion and it could see me. We both charged for the door. I got there first and attempted to close it. I closed three doors which turned out to be screen doors before trying to close the solid door. I got all but about 4inches closed and the lion shoved it open. I scrambled for a knife to defend myself. I then replayed the last part over in my head several times trying different ways to defend myself.

During all of this I kept actually waking up and looking at the clock. I watched it go by hour after hour, and each time realizing this is just a dream and I just need to go back to bed. This continued until the alarm went off at 5am.

I am gearing up for a trip to go mountain biking. I do not get out much, and I have not put a whole lot of money aside from the bare essentials into this hobby. So need a lot of gear. Fortunately there are many sales as spring is emerging. Unfortunately this creates a lot of choices.

So after much struggle to try and figure out what to buy and where from I managed to place an order. The following day I got a notice that 4 of my 6 items were unavailable. And of the two remaining, one was for a friend of mine.

It was raining when I set out to build my fence, so I fabricated the panels in the garage. I have since moved them into the backyard. The goal was to have it follow the line created by the back wall of the house. Unfortunately my 10×10 metal shed will all my yard tools and other assorted stuff was in the way.

So I cleared everything out onto the lawn and moved the shed about a foot. Moving the shed revealed a pile of debris from previous owners. As I cleared the debris, I discovered something far more troublesome. There is an old deep stump exactly where I need to put the fencepost.

My wife attended a field trip with one of the kids and came home to find our new dog missing and a message on the answering machine the day after the dog escaped the first time. The message was from someone who had found the dog wandering around a busy street nearby. The person pulled over his car, opened the door, whistled, and the dog jumped without even knowing the person. He had to go to work and had to drop the dog off at his home, about 30 minutes away.

Later, when my wife picked up the dog, the man explained to us he too has a beagle and that it escapes regularly once a month.
